Dr. Ortiz is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology at UC San Diego. She is a board‐certified dermatologist and double fellowship trained in Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery. She received her training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at UC San Diego and completed the prestigious Cosmetic and Laser Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Wellman Center for Photomedicine under the tutelage of Mathew Avram, M.D., J.D. and Rox Anderson, M.D.. Dr. Ortiz completed her dermatology residency training at UC Irvine and the Beckman Laser Institute and earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College.

Dr. Ortiz is a frequent speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), and is currently the chair of a national aesthetic meeting. She also served as guest editor for the Journal of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine and is a journal reviewer for the Dermatologic Surgery Journal, the British Journal of Dermatology, and the Dermatologic Surgery Journal. She has received numerous awards and honors for her work including the ASLMS research grant, ASLMS Best Cutaneous Laser Surgery Research Award, ASDS Cutting Edge Research Grant, and was most recently awarded the 2014 Doctor’s Choice Award in Dermatology for La Jolla, CA. Dr. Ortiz also serves as an FDA expert for the ASDS and has served on the AAD Telemedicine Task Force, the ASDS Research Work Group, and the ASLMS Social Media Task Force. Dr. Ortiz has published over 30 original medical articles and chapters on new innovations in cutaneous laser surgery that are now commonly used throughout the world. Her research interests are in laser treatment and noninvasive imaging of nonmelanoma skin cancer.
