More Men Falling for Cosmetic Procedures
According to the new data released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, cosmetic procedures for men pushed 10 percent of the total procedures done in 2016.
Plastic surgeon and president elect of the ASAPS Dr. Clyde Ishii explained to Fox News that one out of four men experience some sort of gynecomastia, or male breast enlargement. Male breast reduction surgery has shot up in popularity in recent years – in 2016 alone 31,000 procedures were done in the U.S.
Liposuction is also extremely popular, with 45,000 procedures done in 2016. It has consistently been a go-to tool used by men to get rid of those last few pounds that diet and exercise couldn’t bust.
An interesting non-surgical procedure that has been popular with guys is miraDry. This incredible treatment reduces underarm sweat and odor through microwave technology. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Van Natta has even had the procedure himself.
“First, the treatment area is numbed and then a microwave technology is used to heat up the sweat glands and the odor glands, and they are gone forever. You don’t have to use deodorant or antiperspirant and you no longer sweat under the arms,” said Dr. Van Natta.
Other non-surgical options for men include Botox and Dysport. Especially if a woman in their life has had any rejuvenating procedures, many men are looking to reduce fine lines in the face and match their partner’s youthful glow.
“Nonsurgical options for men include Botox and Dysport to get rid of fine lines, fillers, and if they are good candidates, CoolSculpting can treat problem areas around the body. A common example is the love handles. All of these are performed without surgery,” notes Dr. Van Natta.
